The Final Countdown

Welcome!

As many of you already know this past year I applied to the Peace Corps. Finally, after months of waiting, tons of forms to fill out and seemingly-unnecessary medical examinations, this Friday, November 3rd, 2006, I will finally fly to Washington D.C. to begin my service in Namibia, a desertous country in southern Africa. Although I don't know where in-country I will be placed my current assisnment description is 'Secondary Math and Science Teacher' although I may be called on to teach anything else they see fit! My schedule is as follows: 2 days of pre-service training in D.C. followed by 8 weeks of training in Windhoek (the capital) followed by 2 years placement at some secondary school in Namibia. I wish I had more details to provide to you, such as, which language(s) I will learn, what exactly I will do or teach, where I will live, etc. Rest assured, you will know when I know.

The past month has been a real whirlwind. Everything from defering my student loans, getting an absentee ballot, packing! for two years!!, and, of course, saying good-bye. And that's really the purpose of this blog: keeping some continuity of communication between me and my family and friends. I will do my part to keep you updated with experiences, anecdotes, and pictures, but you can do your part by writing to me and by commenting on the blog. Let's stay in touch, I know we can!
